The Cure For Snoring

Treatment Plans - Laser-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty

LAUP is an out-patient treatment which reduces or eliminates snoring. A laser is used to remove the uvula and trim the soft palate in the places which obstruct the airway during breathing. The procedure has been available for 18 years, with positive results.

Laser-Assisted Palatoplasty is performed right in the doctor’s office under local anesthesia. The number of treatments one needs varies based on individual cases, but patients usually report an immediate improvement. After surgery, a sore throat is common and an anti-inflammatory may be prescribed for discomfort.

DOCTOR’s NOTE: “LAUP is very useful for those with a long soft palate and uvula with the advantage of permanently removing these tissues.  Principle drawback is a prolonged recovery time (up to 2 weeks) and significantly more post-operative pain than the Pillar procedure.”
